New Yorkers for Children was founded in an effort to improve the well-being of foster care children through ongoing guidance, education, and support. The program targets older children from ages-12-21 who are preparing to transition out of welfare programs. NYFC attempts to bridge the gap between foster care and the real world by preparing children to become self-sufficient and sustainable adults. Since the charity was founded, it has raised more than $50 million in support for foster children in New York City. NYFC works with over 1,000 children through programming which includes the Back-to-School Package Program, the Guardian Scholars Program, and Futures in Motion: Youth Can! Program.
Each year the foundation holds its Annual Fall Gala which raises money for the children and draws in a supreme crowd of A-list celebrities and New Yorkers including Alexia and David Leuschen. This year’s gala was held on September 15th at Cipriani 42nd Street and raised over $1.3 million. The gala was a special one as it celebrated the New Yorkers for Children’s 20th anniversary in working with children. The event attracted some of New York’s most elite in the fashion and modeling industry to support the charity.
Chloe was the Presenting Sponsor of the event and it was hosted by Steve Pemberton, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion and Global Chief Diversity Officer at Walgreens Boots Alliance. The event honored James B. Milliken, Chancellor at the City University of New York, for his devotion to helping to create opportunities for the city’s foster care children. Among the celebrities in attendance were actress Kelly Rutherford, models Dree Hemingway, Luma Grothe, and Daphne Groenveld, as well as celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkai and a host of others. Also in attendance were a few of the amazing men and women whose lives have been changed because of their involvement with New Yorkers for Children.
